 Before
Hey guys, sorry I haven't dropped by occasionally. Been kinda busy and stuff, I guess. I'm shipping out for Beautiful San Diego Cali on Monday, just wanted anybody state side that wouldn't mind some mail a way to get their address to me.
So a run down of how my life has been going is in order, basically I've been working 40 hour weeks as a waiter meaning almost every night I'm there from 6 - 10, I've been wanting to come back a little but honestly I don't have the time. Any who I kinda got a girl now, nothing too big but her one condition is I write every day. I moved, I've been living with two other folks from my job for 2 months just to check it out, it's aight, not 400 dollars a month aright, plus food and everything. Been working out can do a 3 mile run in 23 minutes without pushing myself, I still feel out of shape though.
Basically I'd like to say that you probably will see me back in game after the expansion comes out, though I'm not sure what my schedule will be. hopefully I didn't leave myself open for an intellectual slamming. I know you guys will be looking for it.

 Re: Before
Just rememeber Pink...it's all mental. The DI's will figure out your buttons and push them them hard. Stay focused, work hard, and, no matter what, don't take anything personally. Don't let anyone bullshit you, just becoming a Marine really is more special than just becoming a soldier, sailor, or airman (particularly those weak-ass Air Force types ). So, do us proud, and don't pull aggro in boot camp. Let us know what happens, and what you get assigned to do. I am sure that you'll have the best wishes of all of AD's active duty and veterans. Best, Vic

 Re: Before
Best advice I got from my dad before going to BMT, was "It's all a game". You play their game and keep your cool and everybody comes out okay... also... don't volunteer for shit. Pinkanator wrote: Any who I kinda got a girl now, nothing too big Thats no way to talk about a lady. Seriously though, you won't have time to write everyday, however, you need to tell her to write all the time. Letters from home are one of the best ways to keep your sanity. Lastly, don't whirlwind the sheep.

Hey Pink, I prob don't know you but I am a military spouse. When my hubby left for BMT our condition was that I would write him every day and he would write or call when he could. He really appreciated every letter, it gave him something to look forward to and even if it was just a short letter it gave him a moment to pretend like I was there with him. So buy her a nice book of stamps and some cute stickers before you leave and know that the bad days can be offset from a simple letter from home. Good luck, and stay safe. ~Naisa~

You know...I was gonna make a joke at Vic's/The Navy's expense...but then I saw that Vic wrote "Navy Aviation" and realized that the biggest joke was already in the thread.

 Re: Before
Congrats Pink! Being a United States Marine really does mean something, and though none of us (except Bonio perhaps) really know you that well, I am nevertheless proud of your accomplishment. Keep your head, ALWAYS search your conscience and you'll do your shipmates proud as well. If you do learn Arabic, you'll never regret it, it's a great skill for life and will keep you employed. BMT? That's for AF wimps. Future Marines go to boot camp, real Marines graduate. And, don't forget, you are part of the Department of the Navy.

My Chain of Command doesn't include a Chief of Naval Operations. It goes Commandant General Conway, then Honorable Mr Mabus.

Prophecy of Nostradumus: Century II quatrain 62( regarding the 3rd incarnation of the antichrist, after Napolean and Hitler) Mabus will soon die and there will come A dreadful destruction of people and animals, Suddenly vengeance will be revealed, Hundred, hands, thirst and hunger when the comet will pass. The 3rd line refers to Pink spamming Revenge... Actually, I'm pretty disappointed that there isn't a warrior ability called Vengeance. That would have been eerily epic.

 Re: Before
As this thread continues, Pink confirms my statement above that... "I've never met a marine that agreed with the "part of the Navy" deal.
Get over it Pink - there was talk that Obama was even going to recommend that DoD change the official title of the Secretary of the Navy to: "Secretary of the Navy and Marine Corps."
Also, you need to do a little homework. All authority exercised within the Department of Defense is directly derived from that of the President of the United States as delegated to the civilian leadership of the Department of Defense and further delegated to the Armed Forces through the Combatant Commands. The civilian leadership (Secretary) may not directly issue you an order, but it is his/her authority behind the orders that you do receive from military authorities.

 Re: Before
I have both taken from and given orders to Marines during my time in the Navy. Oddly, almost everywhere I served, Marines were embedded. Always enjoyed serving with them, but it made us sailors take extra good care of our uniforms, so we wouldn't look like shit next to the fastidious Marines.
But to add to Ron's point, in the far more "joint" world today, Pink you'll probably be taking (and maybe one day giving) orders form a lot of different directions.
